So the 2012 NFL Draft is over (finally), and, its official, Andrew Luck is an Indianapolis Colt. After months of waiting, the Colts can now officially move forward. So, here’s a bit of a summary of the Colts’ picks.
#1 overall, round 1. QB Andrew Luck, Stanford.
Andrew Luck is the real deal, and apparently the greatest thing since sliced bread. Universally hailed as the best prospect since, ever. Or at least since another Stanford QB, John Elway in 1983 (who the Colts also drafted, although that didn’t turn out well, as Elway refused to play and threatened to play baseball rather than play for the Colts).
As a redshirt freshman, Luck threw for 2575 yards and 13 touchdowns, while running for 351 yards and 2 TDs.
His “sophomore” year, Luck threw for 3338 yards and 32 TDs, completing 70.6% of his passes, finishing with a QB rating of 170.2. He was widely projected to be the #1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, but (thankfully) decided to return to Stanford for one more year and the chance to chase a national championship.
In his redshirt junior year, Luck threw for 35 TDs, 3170 yards, completed 70% of his passes and finished with a QB rating of 167.5.
Luck was twice the runner up for the Heisman Trophy, first to Cam Newton in 2011, then to #2 overall draft pick, Robert Griffin III, QB from Baylor.
At the combine, Luck ran a 4.67 second 40 yard dash, measured a 36″ vertical jump, and a 10′ 4″ broad jump. Luck is 6′ 4″, 234 lbs.
Luck also has the distinguished ability to grow the ugliest neck-beard ever.
Luck wore #12 at Stanford and will continue to do so for the Colts, interestingly following in the footsteps of his former college coach and former Colt Jim Harbaugh.
